I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor who enjoys helping others on their path toward wellness. I treat adults holistically and work with adults who suffer from a variety of problems including depression, anxiety, abuse, trauma, and relationship issues. In addition to traditional counseling methods such as cognitive behavior therapy and humanistic therapy, I use Brainspotting, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (a somatic therapy), mindfulness based practices, yoga techniques, and hypnosis. I have completed the Subtle Yoga teacher training that focuses on using yoga to improve emotional well-being. I also include mindful practices such as meditation and QiGong.
My Background
I think of my life as a story with twists and turns. I was always interested in psychology and ended up with a PhD in social psychology. I taught at the college level for many years and earned tenure at Lyon College in AR. I loved the work and was good at it, but, as a dear friend once told me, "a smalll college will eat you alive if you are not careful." I wasn't careful enough and left rather than be eaten.
I then retrained, getting a masters degree in counseling, and am so much happier. Having the courage and support to make a mid-life career change has taught me a lot about recrafting a life when it isn't working well. I spend a lot of time keeping current in counseling, reflecting on my skills. and learning great new stuff.
